Introduction to Chasing & Repoussé with Ray Walton

There will be an extra £10 materials cost on the day for materials payable to Ray. There will also be the option of buying a pitch bowl filled with pit and bowl stand.

This is a 2 day course for beginners in Chasing.  They will be making some tools by forging, hardening and tempering. Learn how to set up metal on a pitch bowl then working through a project to learn the basic techniques.

The tutor will provide the materials and metal for making the punches and copper for chasing for £10 that will payable on the day.

There will be a further 2 day course in the future where techniques can be explored in greater depth; 4th & 5th February maximum 8.

Ray Walton has worked as a Silversmith for 35 years. His work has won many awards including the prestigious Jacques Cartier Award. In 2015 Ray won the Gold Award for chasing in the Goldsmith’s Craft & Design Competition. Ray is an experienced teacher having worked at Sir John Cass department of Silversmithing & Jewellery, London Metropolitan University and is currently teaching Silversmithing and Chasing at The Goldsmith’s Centre in Clerkenwell
